NJJN Summer (Virtual) Road Trip - 2022
July 25th - July 29th

Feeling the need to recharge, network, and gain a renewed outlook on youth justice advocacy? Take a roadtrip with NJJN this summer! 

Join us on a virtual journey to visit your NJJN family in each region of the United States July 25th through July 29th. Each day NJJN will stop to check in with our regional representatives where we will share in the struggle and engage in member designed creative content.

Day 1: Monday, July 25th: 3:30 PM ET-5:00 PM ET [CLOSED SESSION]
Destination: Some beach, somewhere
Activity: Centering Self-Care
Join us as we head to Texas to hear from student ambassadors at the Texas Center for Justice and Equity about the current state of schools and classrooms. Ambassadors will speak to school policing as both a physical and a cultural structure and the various ways that impacts students feelings of safety and security. Together, participants will rethink how we as a society design our responses to youth behaviors and how we can create schools that cultivate supports to help students thrive. 

Facilitators: 
Eva Young is a certified ontological coach with over 25 years experience who supports leaders in achieving positive results by focusing on purpose, mission, values, personal and collective care, and collaboration.

Tracy McDonald is a psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples and groups to incorporate mindfulness practices into their wellness routine.

The sessions will utilize somatic practices to help individuals develop a self-care practice with the goal of bringing our most authentic selves to the work space. Goals for the session are to increase individual motivation to prioritize self care, identify and overcome challenges to self-care, and establishing personal self-care practices.

Day 2: Tuesday, July 26th: 4:30 PM ET-6:00 PM ET [PUBLIC SESSION]
Destination: The Lonestart State of Texas
Activity: Visioning Healing Learning Environments
Join us as we head to Texas to hear from student ambassadors at the Texas Center for Justice and Equity about the current state of schools and classrooms. Day 3: Wednesday, July 27th: 3:30 PM ET-5:00 PM ET [PUBLIC SESSION]
Destination: City of Dreams, Los Angeles, CA
Activity: Co-Creating a Just World
Join staff from Arts for Healing and Justice Network in California for a creative town hall! This experiential event will get everyone engaging in the arts and creating a vision for policy changes that heal communities.

Day 4: Thursday, July 28th: 3:30 PM ET-5:00 PM ET [PUBLIC SESSION]
Destination: Missouri, The Show Me State
Activity: Engaging Youth and Families through Participatory Defense
Join staff from Missouri’s Metropolitan Congregations United’s participatory defense team to learn how your organization can use this community organizing model to support youth and families navigating the legal system.

Day 5: Friday, July 29th: 3:30 PM ET-5:00 PM ET [CLOSED SESSION]
Destination: The Hub of the Universe, Boston, MA
Activity: Dollars and Sense: A Fundraising Training
Join Alex Danesco, fundraising extraordinaire with Citizens for Juvenile Justice in Massachusetts, for a conversation driven fundraising training to take your organization to new heights.
