NJJN's 10th Anniversary Reception

Open to all Friends of NJJN

Are you passionate about youth justice reform? Are you a friend of the National Juvenile Justice Network? You're invited to our anniversary reception in Washington, D.C. on Monday, July 20th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm EST in honor of NJJN’s 10 years of seeking justice and building a movement. Join us as we celebrate the power of joining together to advance reform and the hard work of youth justice advocates -- it'll be an inspiring, fun event. Come help us whoop it up and have a good time!

Story of Justice Media Award

Jennifer Gonnerman, staff writer for The New Yorker, and author of the 2014 story about Kaleif Browder, "Before the Law" -- a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize -- will accept NJJN's inaugural "Story of Justice Media Award." Her unflinching commitment to exposing the human tragedy of youth lost in uncaring and and damaging systems makes her a perfect exemplar of the kind of balanced but compassionate reporting we'd like to see more of.

Awards for Exemplary Advocates

At our celebration, we will honor exceptional work by advocates on behalf of youth in trouble with the law. We are pleased to announce three award winners this year:

Beth Arnovits Gutsy Advocate for Youth Award

Jody Owens, who directs the Mississippi office of the Southern Poverty Law Center (an NJJN member) will receive this annual award for an outstanding youth justice advocate who has tenacity, vision, fearlessness, and wisdom.

Lifetime Leadership in Youth Justice Reform

Patti Puritz, of the National Juvenile Defender Center, and Bob Schwartz of the Juvenile Law Center, will both receive 2015 awards for their outstanding contributions to the field of youth justice reform over the course of their careers. Patti Puritz and Bob Schwartz are trailblazers who have paved the way for a new generation of reformers.

Send Our Honorees Your Congratulations

We are inviting folks to take out ads in our reception agenda to celebrate any or all of our honorees. If you or your organization would like to do so, just email us at info@njjn.org to make arrangements.
