Juvenile Justice Reform Roundup | October 24, 2013

October 24, 2013

  • The Huffington Post published this two-part feature article on private juvenile incarceration facilities last week. The article exposes the shocking details of private prison companies that continue to win contracts despite documented histories of abuse and neglect of the young people under their care.
  • The Coalition for Juvenile Justice, an NJJN partner, has released a brief titled "Girls, Status Offenses and the Need for a Less Punitive and More Empowering Approach" in honor of last week's Girls Justice Day. The brief describes the ways in which girls--particularly girls of color--are differentially treated in the juvenile justice system with regard to status offenses. Check out the full brief today.
