DC Lawyers for Youth Sheds Light on the Cost of Incarcerating DC's Youth

October 31, 2012

NJJN member DC Lawyers for Youth is running an infographic campaign to raise awareness for youth justice issues in the District of Columbia, as part of Youth Justice Awareness Month. Throughout October, they posted different infographics on their Facebook page to highlight facts about youth in the DC juvenile justice system that emphasize the need to invest more wisely in DC youth, families, and communities. Every Friday, the infographics for the week were combined in one theme. Check out a copy of the first two weeks of infographics here— Week 1: The Criminalization of Poor DC Youth, and Week 2: The High Costs of Arresting DC Youth.

Even though it’s November, it’s not too late to participate in the campaign— please "like" DC Lawyers for Youth on Facebook and share or comment on the infographics as they are posted. If you have any questions or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact Eddie Ferrer at eferrer@dcly.org.

Also, as it happens, NJJN’s Fiscal Policy Center was able to assist DCLY with the formulas and calculations it used to come up with its figures. If your organization is an NJJN member and would like similar assistance, contact Fiscal Policy Center Director Cathy Conly for information on how to crunch the numbers for your state!
