Organization Profile
Founded in 1971, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) mission is to fight hate and bigotry and seek justice for the most vulnerable members of society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality. For over a decade SPLC pursued its fight for racial justice through juvenile justice and education reform. Since then, we have accomplished significant reforms throughout the Deep South.

The Alabama office seeks
to reform government processes that criminalize children and put in their place policies, practices, and laws that provide youth with a fair opportunity for positive life outcomes.  SPLC engages in campaigns that use a combination of advocacy tools, including litigation, media, public policy, administrative advocacy, community mobilizing, coalition-building, and technical assistance to key state agencies and high-impact court systems.
