Models for Change Provides Guidance for Juvenile Diversion Programs

As noted in our recent publication, The Truth About Consequences, recent research shows that the sending youth through the juvenile justice system is not the best way rehabilitate youth. More and more states see the benefits of diversion programs and alternatives to incarceration, but they vary greatly in terms of target population, decision point, consequences, and services provided, among other things.

To guide local policymakers, Models for Change has compiled its comprehensive Juvenile Diversion Guidebook to help jurisdictions plan, implement, or improve a juvenile diversion program. In addition, Models for Change has also released an Innovation Brief that shows how Pennsylvania integrated diversion programs throughout its juvenile justice system to ensure young people were held accountable with less costly and more effective programs.
